Yesterday I mentioned that Microsoft and Nokia were holding a mystery teleconference. The two companies are now making their plans official and have announced a new partnership.

The agreement has both companies working together on the design, development, and marketing of productivity solutions that will bring Microsoft Office Mobile and business communications to Symbian devices. That means that Symbian smartphones will get native Office compatibility.

The Microsoft compatibility will first be seen in the Nokia E-series lien of devices optimized for business. The final solutions will be marketed to carriers and to consumers directly according to the firms. Nokia will start shipping Microsoft Office Communicator Mobile on its smartphones next year.
