Mobile Internet Surges in January

Becoming more of a virtual ‘everything’, the mobile device is taking over the world. Market researcher comScore states that US residents using mobile devices to access information has doubled since last year.

In a report released on Monday, Mark Donovan, comScore’s Senior Vice President of Mobile said, “over the course of the past year, we have seen use of mobile Internet evolve from an occasional activity to being a daily part of their lives.” Users in the US accessing news and information stands at over 63.2 million. “This underscores the growing importance of the mobile medium as consumers become more reliant on their mobile devices to access time-sensitive and utilitarian information.”

The drive of this trend has been in part thanks to downloadable tools like maps as well as the ability to perform text-based searches via your phone (mostly completed while in the car, running late to a dinner having no idea where the restaurant is or whether the menu has traces of nuts.) The report states that the number of unique mobile phone users accessing information on a daily business has grown to 22.4 million in January over the previous year. Social networking and blogging grew steadily over the 12 months. I dare to suggest that if it’s not mobile, as a Business, you will miss out.
