A jaunty looking David Beckham helped Motorola Korea launch their RAZR2 Luxury Edition today, seemingly the next stage in their “we’re going down the pan, let’s launch a wildly-overpriced special edition” strategy; the 18K gold and snakeskin-effect leather handset is otherwise identical to a normal RAZR2, which means a basic 2-megapixel camera, 2GB of memory and a 2.2-inch internal display.

More ridiculous luxury handsets seems like entirely the wrong strategy for Motorola; they really need to concentrate on attractive but realistic cellphones that will provide a convincing argument away from Nokia’s all-conquering N-series and Samsung’s ever-growing range of fashion phones.
