You might think that a company announcing its devolution might hold off on simultaneous product announcements lest they be, well, overshadowed, but that’s not the blinkered, fighting spirit of Motorola. They’re happy to announce the Mobile TV DH02, which despite looking like a bloody massive pager is actually a DVB-H TV complete with PVR functionality, a GPS device with Tele Atlas maps, POIs and voice-directions, and a touchscreen HSDPA/GPRS cellphone, all in one.

“Today’s consumers want to view TV at their convenience on devices that satisfy the entertainment experience with an easy to use interface – and Motorola is delivering on this personalized mobile video and media experience with our end-to end portfolio of mobile TV/Video solutions” Navin Mehta, vice president, Mobile TV and Applications Services, Motorola
Built around a WQVGA touchscreen capable of 25fps video, the Mobile TV DH02 has a rather meagre five-minute memory buffer for rewinding live TV, automatic channel scan and listing, and what they’re calling an “intuitive click, drag and scroll icon-based” GUI. Motorola are saying it’s capable of “E-call (Emergency Calls) and SMS support” which makes it sound like you can’t use it as a normal phone; however, there’s Bluetooth in there to stop you having to hold the whole thing to your head should you need to bellow for help. It seems like the cellular connectivity is more for streaming media and interactive services.
No price or availability details yet, but expect to see the Mobile TV DH02 flaunted at Motorola’s booth come CTIA next month.
