The Oscars might be a more laid-back affair this year because of the writers’ strike, but that doesn’t mean the gift bags that nominees get from publicity-hungry companies are any less glittering.  Motorola are putting their eggs in an E8 shaped basket, pushing the music phone (that we were vaguely indifferent about at CES earlier in the year) as well as their S9 HD Bluetooth stereo earphones.

Motorola ROKR E8 for the Oscars

Each handset is lovingly presented in a faux-iguana-skin box, personalised with the star’s name and the award they’re up for.  Male nominees get a “handsome cobalt coloured blue” box (with dusty blue interior, no less), while female nominees a “fashionable fuchsia colored” version (with rose pink interior), because Motorola are all about perpetuating gender colour stereotypes.

Of course, for maximum publicity the ailing company should probably have crafted some custom forehead-mounted Bluetooth headsets, which periodically flash “Motorola rock my coveted world”.

The Motorola E8 is hardly something to be
indifferent about. It represents a great
phone that’s functions extremely well for
    what it’s been designed for.
And, there’s the fabulous future cool design.
For the serious, modern, nay, forward looking,
business /work user, it’s the best i’ve come across.
