The MWg Zinc II is an attractive new phone, featuring Windows Mobile 6.1. The solid feature set includes a 500MHz CPU, courtesy of Samsung, a slide out keyboard, and the obligatory touch screen. The improvements, especially considering many new smartphones are still lumbered with 200-300MHz processors, should add up to a very speedy phone.

Looking at this phone, it is very sleek. The keyboard is stylish, and does not make itself a burden on the flow of the device, as you see on some other mobiles. The front of the phone keeps it simple when closed. Send and end, and navigation keys are all you will find. There are also some side keys, such as volume rocker, to get quick access to certain features.

Windows Mobile 6.1 is very snappy when compared to it’s 6.0 brother. It also has a few aesthetic improvements, and seems to just in general, more attractive. Running multiple applications under Windows Mobile 6.1 is fine by it, and it no longer becomes bogged down so easily. The camera application was an area of great improvement. It opens faster than before, and takes pictures more quickly than ever before. Shutter time has been reduced to an instant.

The home screen on the Zinc II is improved by the addition of a quick launch menu. A button on the side of the phone opens this application. Similar to HTC’s TouchFLO, swiping your finger rotates the icons to reveal more quick launch icons.
