National Geographic announced their mobile division yesterday in order to bring mobile games and programming to handsets everywhere. National Geographic Mobile will launch in October and a special website tailored for mobile devices will feature mobile optimized content covering topics areas from news to music to videos.
The content will of course coincide with the magazine and channel’s content. It sounds like a fun way to watch a video of a cheetah running while waiting in line at the grocery store, if you ask me.
NG will also partner with PlayPhone soon in order to encourage the distribution of mobile content on the Internet. This subscription-based service will make it so users can download wallpapers, videos, games and ringtones specific to the National Geographic brand to their phones or computers.
