New HTC Hero firmware update hits UK site

The HTC Hero has been issued a firmware update that is now available for users to download on the UK HTC download page. The update improves several functions of the device to make it faster and more stable.

The update is the 2.73.405.5 ROM and it makes the Android OS faster and adds a touch to focus feature to the function of the Hero’s 5MP camera. The update reportedly needs about ten minutes to install.

The only downside to grabbing this update directly from HTC is that any tweaks made by your specific carrier will be lost. The other downside is that the update will only work on Windows PCs.

I’ve just tried to download the new ROM update from the HTC website too and got the same message – any ideas? Will I loose all connectivity with T-Mobile?
