The location: Sorocaba prison, 62 miles away from Sao Paolo. The operation by Authorities: intercept two pigeons en route with a phone and charger.

Previously, the use of birds has been focused more towards smuggle contraband such as drugs, weapons, and money. The use of animals both for the prevention and innovations of crime is a world wide phenomenon. Sniffer dogs in Australia are being used to sniff out mobile phones. Although they might have trouble chasing pigeons.

The birds were used in the Brazilian prison where Rosana Alberto stated that “Penitentiary agents found the pigeons outside the Danilo Pinheiro prison but, fortunately, the birds did not have time to enter the prison building with the material.”  The birds were caught on two successive days, last Wednesday and Thursday. Photo above has nothing to do with the article, nor is the pigeon(s) currently being questioned, he just looks cute.
