We just found out that there is not going to be any announcement of a “Zune phone” at CES in January. Brian Seitz, Group Manager of Zune said, “No Zune phone at CES.” We recently heard of rumors from CNBC of a Zune phone that went by the name “Project Pink” and listed specifications and everything.

Thank you Mary Jo Foley over at ZDNet for setting us straight and reminding everyone that Pink is not a piece of hardware at all, rather it’s a platform of services that could allow Zune like services to run on platforms like Windows Mobile. We certainly think that Pink may come out at CES, but there will be no “Zune phone.”

Much like Android and every phone running this platform being branded “Google phone” when in reality Google did not make the phone, we can see how a device running Zune services could coin up the name Zune phone. Half of it is misconception while the other half is seeing such a beautiful concept and our wishful thinking running away with it. We are still not ruling out the Zune phone altogether, just stating that there will not be such an announcement at CES.
