There are many phones running Symbian S60 that can be affected by a potentially harmful SMS messaging bug. Though this occurrence is rare, it is very simple to do. The bug silently stops the phone from receiving text messages until you reset the device.

The bug is triggered when the user uses more than 32 characters in a text messages and flags it as “Internet Electronic Mail.” Phones that are infected include any phone running S60 versions 2.6 – 3.1, which as you may know include a large portion of Nokia’s phone line. Tobias Engel and the Chaos Computer club found the exploit a few weeks ago and have reported it to Nokia. Since then there has been no patch to fix the bug.  Check below to see if your phone is one of the affected.
