Ironically I thought crystals went out of fashion a while back, after people got fed up of Swarovski gluing the damn things to anything that would stay still for long enough, but Nokia are happily promoting their 7900 Crystal Prism special edition cellphone complete with diamond-cut centre key. Still, considering how outlandish the rest of the phone is, you’d have to have “particular” tastes to consider it at all.

Apparently it’s the work of creative designer Frédérique Daubal, who collaborated with Motorola on everything from the laser-etched graphics, the exclusive wallpapers and the special accessory range. The casing is aluminium and the screen OLED, but the rest of the specs are fairly average: 3G, a 2-megapixel camera, 1GB of internal memory and a matching stereo headset. Oh, and the keypad can be switched between a surprising 49 colours.

It’ll be available Q1 2008, priced at around €375 ($544).
