Earlier this morning I posted a rumor that Nokia was working to bring a new Android-powered smartphone to market. I said at the time that it seemed a bit off for Nokia, who pushes Symbian, to be using the Android OS.

Reuters reports that Nokia has now come out and denied that it has plans for an Android smartphone. A Nokia spokesman told Reuters that there is, “Absolutely no truth to this whatsoever.” Of course this wouldn’t be the first time that a company spokesman has denied a product was in development only to have it debut in the next few weeks.

The spokesman said, “Everyone knows that Symbian is our preferred platform for advanced mobile devices.” Note that the spokesman didn’t say Android wasn’t being developed for use on a Nokia netbook, which is much more likely I think.
