Nokia N810 WiMAX edition to launch at CTIA Wireless in April?

Remember when we all thought Best Buy had leaked Nokia’s upcoming WiMAX-enabled Internet Tablet, possibly called the N830?  Well, that was predicted for a CTIA Wireless launch in April, and the suspicions have had a booster shot courtesy of some fresh rumoring received over at The Boy Genius‘ shack.  According to his sources, April 1st will see Nokia announce the N810 – yes, same name apparently – only with new WiMAX-happy insides.

Nokia N810 to get WiMAX upgrade April 1st?

Now any rumor pegged for April 1st will always prompt cries of “April fools!” but that’s also the day that CTIA Wireless starts, and it’s not like the concept of a WiMAX N-series tablet is especially foreign.

The only real question would be regarding coverage.  A flagship device like this would be an excellent accompaniment to, say, an announcement from Sprint and Clearwire about sharing (or merging) their networks, instantly making WiMAX far more of a realistic prospect for mobile data access.  Now there’s no indication that such an announcement is scheduled for CTIA, but if I were Sprint – and were suffering the severe losses the carrier is currently weathering – I’d be keen to do what I could to prop up my share price asap.
