One of the best things about any industry, is the fact that if you start dealing with any more than one person, you get mixed signals. It doesn’t even matter if someone is at the top of the food chain — what they say can be completely undermined by someone else’s speech. Or, like in this particular situation, a simple photograph of a completely unknown device.
It’s been a day since we reported that Nokia is indeed leaving NSeries behind, and instead going for their newly created MeeGo mobile platform on future hardware. So, you can count that as a confirmation from the company that manufactures the hardware and software. Which, at least in our book, means that there won’t be Symbian on the N9. But, alas, if you look at this picture, that’s exactly what’s happening. Sure, this may not be the N9, which is rumored to be the N8, but with a slide-out keyboard, but the similarities are way too . . . Similar, to ignore.
Based on the photo and hands-on from Negri Electronics, this device does indeed have a slide-out landscape physical QWERTY keyboard (obviously), and on the back, there’s an 8MP camera. Oddly enough though, it has 3G bands that work here in the States, on carriers like AT&T. What else it has, that’s worth mentioning, is a screen that has “ridiculous clarity.” No idea what that may mean in technical terms, but apparently it’s good. So, what’s the deal, Nokia? Is this the MeeGo device we’ve been waiting for, or just more of the same?
