NVIDIA is more known for its GPUs for the computer industry, but the company also makes parts for other industries including the mobile phone market. Big green is talking up its Tegra line of cell phone processors, which aren’t hugely popular in the cellular market right now.

NVIDIA announced last week that some of the biggest manufacturers in gadgetdom are designing mobile phones and other mobile devices based on the Tegra processor. VentureBeat reports that the biggest adopters of the Tegra processors will be cellular phone makers rather than computer companies that NVIDIA is traditionally most closely associated with.
Of course, the line between mobile phones and computers is becoming increasingly blurred as mobile phones grow in performance and more traditional computer makers like Acer jump into the smartphone market in an effort to grab more loot out of their customers. The good news for mobile phone fans is that the Tegra processor becoming a more common platform for phones means that we could begin to see smartphones capable of better 3D gaming performance and the streaming and decoding of HD video. Tegra is aimed at lower cost devices in the $200 range. I for one would love to see a future iPhone with a Tegra processor.
