This is the first of more to come. The relationship between Alcatel and O2 will provide more phones by Alcatel in the US. O2 was chosen to receive this phone because of their nationwide reach and affordable rates. The phone is aimed to be an affordable entry level offering.

ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J., April 18 /PRNewswire/ — O2[SM] Wireless, a veteran in the prepaid wireless space for over 12 years, is getting a breath of fresh air with the addition of the new Alcatel OT-E206a phone. The sleek, new OT-E206a is the first Alcatel mobile phone to be approved by a major GSM carrier in the US and O2 [SM] Wireless is the first US based MVNO to offer it. Feature-rich, functional and stylish, the compact OT-E206a is packed with power and is an economical value for the trendsetter looking for a sleek phone at an affordable price.

It is not immediately clear what features the phone has or when it will become available. If O2 is going to take the time to make a press release for it though, you have to believe it will be here soon.
