Opticon, who specialise in enterprise applications and data collection, have taken the title of AT&T’s Best New Network Compatible Device 2008 for their H19 Field Phone in the carrier’s Wireless Developer Program Fast-Pitch Platinum Awards announced at CTIA.  The award recognises new cellular network devices that are compatible with AT&T’s GSM/GPRS network, and contestants are subject to a quick-fire presentation and question/answer session; the H19 beat competition from various software apps and hardware devices.

Opticon H-19

If, like I initially was, you’re confused as to whether this is really the best new GSM wireless device on the market, the category Opticon entered was that of the Enterprise Fast-Pitch Platinum Award, hence the chunky H19 besting its rivals thanks to its quadband GSM/GPRS, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and a choice of choice of laser barcode scanner or CMOS Imager for data collection.

The H19 will be available in a few weeks time.
