So far, the apps that have turned up on the Palm app catalog have been free offerings that users could download. This was one of the reasons that many felt that there were so few apps available for the Pre.

Palm announced that developers could now start submitting applications for the Palm app store that will be paid for apps. The beta program for paid apps will begin in mid-September and developers who are able to participate in the beta will get their free and paid apps listed in the app store.

The developers will receive a 70/30 split of the revenue their apps generate less any applicable sales tax. Users of the app store will be able to purchase the apps with credit cards. Palm expects the program to launch fully this fall.
