Palm Pre will sync with iTunes

It has been confirmed at today’s D7 conference that the upcoming Palm Pre will indeed support iTunes Syncing. The device will be able to sync with iTunes out of the box, without the help of any 3rd party software. This will be one more reason for many users to take the plunge to the Pre, and potentially switch from the iPhone.

It is speculated that Palm is paying Apple for this capability, especially after Apple made threats to sue anyone infringing on their IP. They were talking about Palm, but Palm countered, stating that they had numerous IP patents that they could hit Apple with as well. It appears that the two companies have settled into an Patent Cold War, and potentially even realized that they could both benefit from this relationship. iTunes expands its control to another device, especially with the Amazon Music store becoming more and more popular, and Palm and the Pre users get to continue using their iTunes music libraries with their new device.

Hopefully that is indeed the case, and this isn’t just Palm sticking it to Apple. I want the feature to remain, and if either company does something to change that, I’ll be slightly upset. I use both Apple and (soon) Palm products, and there will only be angry customers if this feature gets yanked.
