Thanks to a deal with voice-control specialists Nuance, Palm smartphones running the homegrown Palm OS will be able to respond to vocal commands such as contact name or digit dialling, message addressing for picture, text or email messages, and running apps or choosing menu options. It’s all down to Nuance’s VSuite, which will be preloaded onto the AT&T Centro and Verizon Treo 755p, and requires no vocal training in order to recognise a user’s commands.
An additional Voice Control feature will be offered on a subscription basis, giving users the ability to browse and search the internet, dictate e-mail or text messages and create calendar entries simply by speaking to the smartphone. Palm are yet to announcing pricing.
