Hang on, have Panasonic given their new P905i cellphone a dubious champagne casing?  Nineties colour choices aside, the P905i is another of those damned intended-for-Asia handsets that most of us are forced to admire from afar: glorious VIERA 3.2-inch 480 x 854 screen with a 2,000:1 contrast ratio, HSDPA, GPS, 5.1-megapixel camera and 1-Seg mobile TV, it’s enough to make you vomit over your dull Nokia.

Intended for NTT DoCoMo, the P905i runs the LiMo open-source Linux mobile OS and supports Windows Media video and audio files.  There’s a full internet browser, document viewer, Bluetooth and the ability to record mobile TV direct to a microSD card.  As a triband GSM (900/1800/1900MHz), W-CDMA/HSDPA (800MHZ, 1.7/2GHz) device you could probably pick one up on import, but don’t expect all the shiny features to work.  No, just covet from a distance like the rest of us.

    Hai.

  3. TouchPro82 says:

This Phone would run circles around the Iphone

  4. Barracuda says:

    It sure is ugly!

  5. LordOfRuin says:

It may be a little less pretty, but a useless thing of beauty is no use at all. I think Panasonic should just knock some of the corners and edges off, bring it out in piano black, and launch it over here in the UK, where I will gladly part with my hard earned cash.

  6. BrothaNumpsey says:

I don’t know if it will run rings around the iPhone since this phone is not wi-fi capable (at least according to this article). But if you do not really care about having a phone with internet capabilities then this phone would be great. The 8 mega pixel sensor is what would sell me.

  7. Rob says:

Nice phone, feature wise. Physically the Japanese have no taste its ugly as sin.

  8. Big Ed says:

BrothaNumpsey, the fact that it does not have wi-fi is not important in Japan where it is sold. They surf on their cell phone signal and pay less for it than we do. And they watch TV, and they can shoot video, and they can take decent pictures, and they can play motion sensing games. The iphone is a big metal brick in Japan that just does not stand up by their standards.

I think the iphone will do great. I am pretty sure Apple will be coming out with new editions and models that WILL be more appealling to the general public. Apple has a made a career out of grabbing small margins of people. When M$ turned just about took over the industry, Apple was scrapping by. Now with the intel capable systems and the complete frustration of M$ OSes. Apple is making a come back. I predict if M$ keeps going down this road of crappy OSes, that the general public can’t even understand, they are going to lose this technology war.

    I have but one word.

    KISS

From what I have read this panny phone has a boat load of problems with the software and reliability. When you don’t see a Jap product make it to the USA it’s because it has so many small nigling problems, that the average Japanese person would not complain about but in the “Country of Complaining aka USA” it would be a disaster.

Second point is, What TV are you going to watch via that off air tuner? Chances of you getting a good HD signal with that tiny antenna (even if the HD tuner was compatible) is almost ZERO!

No Wi-fi. Well that ends a lot of peoples interest.

Did any of you check out the Battery Life ? ;)

For many Japanese workers this phone will be there main TV and it will also be there Main Camera. For Americans who live a whole different kind of lifestyle, the question is will people Trade small form factor, Wi-Fi and Battery life for a Portable TV that seconds as a phone?

Guys does this phone work in the Philippines? how to unlock this one? anyone knows? plsss…

  14. ?? says:

wifi is not really used here that much. unlimited over-the-air is like available on all carriers here in japan. and its like super cheap compared to the US. we dont have to search for hotspots just to connect.

in japan, phones are valued for their features, not the design.

does this phone work on 02 with a hypersim?
