This week we saw quite a few announcements in the land of mobile phones. But we also saw a few bits of news from phone makers and carriers alike.

Nothing was bigger this week than the T-Mobile G1 announcement on Tuesday. The brand new phone features the long-awaited Android OS from Google and seems to bring quite a bit more to the plate in terms of features for touchscreen lovers. A T-Mobile coverage map also hit the web this week to show the roll out of 3G service, primarily for those that get the new G1.

Nokia was pretty prominent this week as well. We learned the Nokia N96 might be coming to Best Buy Mobile in October and we heard a rumor that the Nokia Tube would be launching next month. However, just the next day new photos of the phone leaked, which is to be called the Nokia 5800 and an official announcement might be coming as soon as next week.

Verizon Wireless announced they would be offering a contract-free version of their services and we got a look at the Casio TFT LCD display, which features an insanely high resolution. A few more photos of the BlackBerry Storm hit the web this week as well and we even got a look at the upcoming high-end device from Sagem and Porsche Designs, the P’9522.

Hands on photos of the HTC Touch HD made their way to our pages this week and boy, this phone is slick. On a related note, we also learned that Telus might be bringing the HTC Touch Dual and the Touch Pro to Canada in the near future. The Samsung M8800 was announced this week and the Armani 2 Night Effect was announced, and though it’s meant to be a stylish device, it’s really not all that attractive.

Lastly, Sony Ericsson is currently shopping around their “GreenHeart” concept phone that features numerous environmentally-friendly technologies.
