One of the cool things that you can do with some smartphones is control home automation and alarm systems. A company called Platinum Protection has announced that it is now offering apps for the iPhone and Blackberry devices.

The apps allow users to access functions of security systems directly on the smartphone. Users can view live camera fees, tilt, and adjust cameras and record video clips of criminals during a break in.

The app is available for free, but users must have a subscription to Platinum’s web-based Platinum Interactive service. The system can also be set to alert homeowners if their home floods, has a power outage or when the front door opens.
