While the iPhone may have out-of-the-box appeal, with Apple’s gorgeous finger-friendly interface, the better third-party software integration of Windows Mobile means developers are free to throw their own UI tweaks into the mix. One such product - and a freeware one at that - is Pointui’s Home, a skinning app that adds finger-swipes and chunky buttons to the previously stylus-demanding WM6.

Unlike HTC’s TouchFLO, as seen on the company’s Touch smartphone, more of the WM environment is skinned (rather than just a launch screen of sorts); that means you can get to calls, email, text messages and music without having to be troubled by Microsoft’s ageing UI. Pointui Home also drags the system settings kicking and screaming to the top level, too, making tweaks to sound and wireless settings far more straightforward.
A free download, Pointui Home is currently compatible with Windows Mobile versions 5 and 6, with a Pocket PC 2003 version available soon.
