Verizon Wireless today announced the Samsung Gleam, available in almost indecent metallic purple, and accompanied by the carrier’s animated “Living Wallpaper”. The 0.55-inch thick clamshell maintains the functionality of the original Gleam – including Get It Now, V CAST music & video downloads, an instant messaging client compatible with AIM, MSN and Yahoo!, and a full SMS/MMS/video message suite.

Stereo A2DP Bluetooth means you can pair the Gleam with cordless headphones, and there’s a microSD slot for cards up to 4GB in size. A 240 x 320 pixel, 262K colour display graces the inside, while a 96 x 96 pixel, 65K colour screen outside is accompanied by dedicated music controls.

The purple gleam will be available for $99.99 after the usual wretched $50 mail-in rebate, with a new two-year Verizon Wireless contract.
