Qualcomm have announced that their Gobi mobile internet solution - the combination embedded 3G HSPA and GPS platform the company launched last year - has been approved by carrier T-Mobile, meaning notebook manufacturers will be able to release portable computing devices that can access the high-speed data network.

Gobi consists of Qualcomm’s MDM1000 chipset, associated software and API, and a reference design for a software-defined configurable data module supporting both EV-DO Rev. A and HSPA with full backward compatibility, as well as GPS functionality. The company has also developed a common software API that has the backing of numerous connection manager software vendors.
