The numbers for Nokia Q1 2009 have been released. The overall picture – not good.

It is sadly not a surprise that the profit numbers for Nokia are not sprinkled with fireworks. All companies are finding it hard at the moment. The bigger question is not whether profits ‘have dropped’, rather it’s ‘by how much’. For Nokia, the success of the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, makes the company optimistic for the future. They expect no further declines in the volumes of the mobile devices and even predict an increase in their overall market share.

Although the estimated mobile device market share for Nokia has remained the same as in Q4 2008 are down by 18% in comparison with Q4 (to total mobile device volumes of 93.2 million units). Combined with the significant revenue and production decrease in most non-phone related business activities of the company, has led to a decrease of the reported operating profit of over 96% in comparison with Q1 2008.
