Mediaguide Radio Companion on BlackBerryIf you’ve ever been listening to the radio and missed the artist and title of a catchy new song, Mediaguide may have the app for you.  Their Radio Companion software for BlackBerry, developed with Nobex Technologies, uses proprietary audio fingerprinting and remote monitoring to constantly track what’s being played on over 2,700 US radio stations; download the free app and you can pull up automatically generated tracklistings from any of those stations.

“When you’re tuned in live to a station but don’t know the name of the specific song that’s playing, Radio Companion can tell you in an instant.  Some people listen to a particular station to get introduced to new music. For them, Radio Companion is a great tool for scrolling recent playlists to discover tracks they may want to check out” Gadi Mazor, CEO, Nobex

Right now Radio Companion shows track name and artist, a thumbnail image of the album cover or a picture of the artist themselves, but they’re working on delivering streaming radio directly to BlackBerry handsets and envisage it being offered in late Summer 2008.

The software is compatible with the BlackBerry Pearl, Curve and 8800-series handsets, and can be downloaded directly to the smartphone itself by visiting http://www.nobexrc.com and choosing the appropriate download link.
