ABI Research has released a report of more than 1,000 users between the ages of 18 and 59. Of these users, more than two thirds have and were very happy with the WiFi for their smartphone.

The results of the study noted that for the Users 77% of users of WiFi enabled mobile phones are completely or very satisfied with their device. For those that have WiFi on their phones, 74% use the feature and 77% say they will also seek WiFi in their next phone. The details also expended on the statistics for phones themselves where that 44% of smartphones currently have the Wi-Fi feature with this figure is expected to increase to 90% by 2014. (This seeming interesting as almost 60% of WiFi phone users owned the device for less than a year.)

For WiFi in a phone, the device needs to be certified through the WiFi Alliance. The organisation tests and issues the WiFi Certified certification to ensure that WiFi products from different vendors can work well with one another. Since 2000, the group has completed more than 5,000 certifications of consumer and enterprise devices. To date, 311 handsets, including smartphones, have been WiFi Certified with the number rising every quarter.

    1. This is what kept me from purchasing a Blackberry Storm. I HAVE to have Wi-Fi capability. There are so many free hotspots in my town that it would be crazy not to take advantage of them. When Dell releases their line of smartphones, they better have the foresight to include Wi-Fi…and Adobe Flash :)
