One of the most important areas for improvement in most mobile phones and other consumer electronic devices is the battery. With better battery technology, our phones can have longer run time, more powerful processors and more overall performance.

Most phones today use lithium-ion battery technology. A company called ReVolt Technology and BASF has announced that they are working together on new Zinc-Air battery technology. The two firms will be working together to jointly develop and commercialize Zinc-Air battery technology.

BASF will be supplying key component materials for the battery and the firms will jointly develop subsystem elements needed to commercialize the battery. Zinc-air batteries promise up to three times the energy density of lithium-ion batteries in the same package size.
