As tipped last month, Canadian carrier Rogers Wireless has secured the Nokia N95 8GB, and in the process become the first North American carrier to officially offer the handset.  The first N-series device available in Canada, the N95 8GB has a 5-megapixel camera, 2.8-inch QVGA display, HSPA high-speed cellular data and WiFi.  The handset will be available to buy on May 6th.

“Rogers has a reputation for bringing the best and latest in innovative mobile technology to Canadians, and the Nokia N95 8GB is another perfect example of this leadership” John Boynton, SVP and Chief Marketing Officer, Rogers Wireless

Of course, what Boynton forgot to mention is that Rogers also has a reputation pricing high, and the N95 8GB is no exception.  The cheapest the carrier will let you have one for is CAD$399.99 (US$393), assuming you’re content with a three-year contract.  Contrast that with the UK, where the device is widely available free with a new two-year contract.

Still, let’s not quibble over price (unless we’re Canadian which, at the time of writing, I’m not).  Instead let’s allow the S60v3, GPS and media-fantastic N95 lull us with its 20hr video capacity or vast song storage.  AT&T have still not confirmed when the smartphone will be available in the US, although rumors suggest the second half of 2008.
