Samsung has announced two new music-centric cellphones as part of its newly-started BEAT Edition range. The BEAT-b M3510 and BEAT-s M3200 are a candy-bar and slider respectively, and include Samsung’s Digital Natural Sound engine and Auto EQ. The company has also added motion-gesture control, whereby tapping the cellphone plays or pauses the music, shaking it skips to the next or previous track, and turning it face down pauses and mutes it, before setting the BEAT handset into silent mode.

The BEAT-b M3510 measures 9.9mm thick and weighs 68g; the BEAT-s M3200 is 16.9mm thick and weighs 101g. The M3200 also includes B&O’s ICEpower audio system; both have 3.5mm headphone jacks and Bluetooth A2DP for wireless stereo headphones.

Battery life for the M3510 is given as 19hrs music, 5hrs talktime or 250hrs standby; for the M3200 it rises to 21hrs music, 7hrs talktime or 400hrs standby. Both have microSD slots and 2-megapixel cameras, together with 2-inch 240 x 320 displays, but no 3G. The BEAT-b will be available in September, with the BEAT-s following in October. No prices or carrier partners have been suggested.
