If there’s one thing I hate, it’s lazy marketing: positioning a gadget to your prospective female audience by slapping flowers on it, making it look “cutesy” or, worst of all, bundling cosmetics with it just strikes me as patronising. So I’m not too impressed by Samsung’s SGH-G600 ‘Belle’: it’s almost a year since it was first announced, but of course that doesn’t matter because they can simply give it a fresh coat of paint and drop three bottles of nail varnish into the box with it.

It’s being done as a special promotion between nails inc., Samsung and UK retailer Phones4U; the G600 itself is a quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE slider with a 2.2-inch display, 55MB of internal memory (plus a microSD slot for cards up to 2GB in size) and a 5-megapixel auto focus camera with image stabilisation. Samsung preinstall Access’ NetFront 3.4 browser, and there’s Bluetooth 2.0 and video recording too.
Perhaps I’m being overly sensitive on behalf of our female readership – and please, let me know what you think in the comments – but why shouldn’t gadget-loving ladies choose their toys based on performance rather than a nail-matching colour scheme? The G600 Belle will go on sale in the UK on April 1st.
