Samsung’s Instinct has received its first software update, a little over a month since the handset itself launched on Sprint’s network. The update, which will be offered automatically as well as via manual install, contains only minor tweaks but does pave the way for a more significant upgrade promised for later on in the year.
Changes right now, however, include reduced fluctuation in the Instinct’s battery and signal strength indicators (including the battery meter now registering 100-percent on full charge) and increased volume when using a Bluetooth headset. You can also choose to set a saved image as the handset’s wallpaper. According to Samsung and Sprint, the update also modifies the Instinct’s base code in preparation for the next, larger release.
Owners will automatically receive a push text message with the update over the next week; alternatively it can be triggered manually. To do so, go to “Main” and then press “settings” > ”general” > “update software”.

We’ve updated our Instinct - it was quick and we were back using the handset in a minute or two - and will be keeping an eye on it to see whether stability is affected. Initial impressions are that Bluetooth seems a little louder, but nothing that previously tweaking up the headset’s volume wouldn’t achieve.
