Samsung Q1 Ultra Premium UMPC now with XOHM WiMAX upgrade

Not to be outdone by Nokia’s latest N810 with it’s WiMAX upgrade, Samsung have sprinkled some XOHM pixie-dust onto their Q1 Ultra Premium UMPC and blessed it with high-speed wireless broadband courtesy of Sprint’s new network.  The compact touchscreen tablet comes with a choice of Windows Vista or XP Tablet Edition, and is powered by an Intel Core Solo ULV processor; wireless options are now expanded to include WiFi b/g, Bluetooth 2.0 +EDR and integrated XOHM support.  Expect the Q1 Ultra Premium with WiMAX in Fall 2008.

Samsung have also announced the E100 PC card, which offers XOHM connectivity to existing laptops; it’s scheduled for release in June 2008.  The company has not revealed pricing for either device.

Samsung Unveils Ultra Mobile PC and PC Card to Deliver Mobile WiMAX Services to U.S. Customers

LAS VEGAS –(Business Wire)– Apr. 1, 2008 Offering consumers several options to harness the speed and mobility of WiMAX, Samsung’s IT and Mobile divisions today announced the upcoming availability of the Samsung Q1 Ultra Premium Mobile PC and the Samsung E100 PC Card. Both devices will operate exclusively on Sprint’s XOHM mobile broadband Internet service compliant to the WiMAX standard. The commercial launch is expected to begin in Baltimore, Washington DC and Chicago later this year.

The Samsung Q1 Ultra Premium Ultra Mobile PC is a compact, powerful computer that operates on the Windows Vista(R) or XP Tablet Edition operating systems and the high performance Intel Core Solo ULV processor. The Q1 Ultra Premium offers a large, ultra-bright 7-inch LCD screen, V1.5 split-QWERTY keyboard, and up to 6.5 hours of continuous run time. The Q1 Ultra Premium supports ubiquitous connectivity via the embedded Sprint XOHM broadband service, as well as support for 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi and Bluetooth(R) 2.0 + EDR. The Q1 Ultra Premium is scheduled to be available in the fall of 2008.

The E100 is a single mode PC card that operates on Sprint’s XOHM service. The E100 easily attaches to the user’s laptop computer to deliver 4G speeds with ubiquitous mobility. E100 is scheduled to be available in June.

In addition to developing these XOHM-enabled devices, Samsung is a leading provider of Mobile WiMAX network systems to Sprint and is deploying the commercial XOHM network for Sprint in Baltimore, Washington D.C. and other markets. Samsung today announced that it has demonstrated interoperability between its Mobile WiMAX infrastructure and devices from several other vendors identified by Sprint to be used commercially on the XOHM network.
