Although the F700 is a nice phone, its Croix OS certainly isn’t as smooth as that of the iPhone. Samsung know that, of course, and they’re pleading a rush to market and asking us to give them another chance with this, their new TouchWiz interface for touchscreen handsets. As of the F480 and F490, all Samsung handsets will use the new system, which has a new widget-enabled homescreen, better use of shortcut buttons and improved labelling. PhoneScoop shot a video walk-through of TouchWiz while at the Mobile World Congress; you can see it after the cut.

The menus and general layout are unchanged, it seems that Samsung have really just learnt from feedback on Croix and tried to give the OS an extra shot of intuitiveness. Personally I think the homescreen is a bit gimmicky, but users will probably love it.

I’m not a big fan of Apple, but I have to say that there’s two periods: before the iPhone and after the iPhone.
I was using PDA’s sinces years, and I nerver stop complaining about how difficult are the Windows mobile interface to use. I think that PDA’s aims to ease our life, but with win mobile it complicates it a little bit.
Now that apple shows that a mobile have to be with an easy interface to be productive, the competitor are obliged to folow that way.
But anyway, it’s a good moove from Samsung. I thing that HTC with touch and the futur Manila will be as good as iPhone.
Cheers
TouchWiz might be the better OS then Croix but I miss the dark and elegant design of Croix. In fact, the Croix design would be the major reason for me to buy the F490.
Does anybody know if the TouchWiz allows different skins, so that the menus look like the old ones from croix?
