Sprint have announced the availability of the Sanyo model from May 10. The SCP-2700 is only $29.99 with a new two-year service agreement, after a $50 mail-in rebate.

Specifications for the model include a full QWERTY keyboard with threaded text messaging, 1.3MP camera, Sprint Navigation, Sprint Family Locator, Sprint Mobile Email Work, Social Zone application and Bluetooth. The phone is focused to those really looking for a cost effective messaging device.
Andy Kodera, president of Kyocera SANYO Telecom, Inc says that as “Mobile messaging has quickly become the de facto mode of communication for millions and, whether it’s for kids and grandparents or the seasoned texter, this phone has the ideal combination of usability, style and affordability.” The phone is targeted to the younger demographic who are more accustomed to sending an SMS, rather than calling someone.
