Cell phones can do all sorts of things today that weren’t possible a few years ago. For instance, some retailers use barcodes that can be read by mobile phone applications allowing the consumer to get more information about a product by simply taking a photo of the barcode with their phone.

According to a new study, digital scannable coupons on mobile phones are set to invigorate promotions. Research firm LJS and Samplesaint collaborated for the study of digital coupons that offer savings on products.
Digital coupons are sent to phones and the cashier scans the display of the phone to give the user the discount. The survey found that 29% of consumers are interested in taking advantage of digital coupons when they are available. Consumers interested in this type of coupon offer tend to be younger and more affluent as well. That could mean more likely to purchase items that the discount is for.
