I will admit that when I am on my computer I run all sorts of software to prevent hackers or malicious websites from damaging my computer or other nefarious tasks. However, when I surf the Internet on my iPhone I don’t think twice about what I am clicking on.

Security firm Trend Micro conducted a survey that found smartphone users are not concerned enough about security. Only 23% of smartphone users take advantage of security software that is installed on their phones.
The most familiar threat according to the survey for smartphone users is phishing, 80% of smartphone users know what it is, and 20% say they have encountered a phishing scam. Spam is another of the common and recognizable threats.
The survey found that 40% of smartphone users have clicked on links in spam messages. The survey also says that the iPhone user is more likely to surf the net from their phone, visit audio and video sharing sites, and send and receive email. That means the device is more susceptible to threats.

Smartphone users definitely need more security. Compared to how we treat our PCs, running the latest anti-virus software, doing regular checks and maintenance…it’s almost scary how little thought we put into the security of our phones. But how do we best protect out phones from hackers or phishers, without sacrificing the convenience that smartphones offer as their biggest selling point?
