Sony Ericsson’s BeiBei may have an unusual codename, but the rest of the handset looks mighty tempting. A slim candybar running the new UIQ 3.3 OS, very few of the device’s technical details are known. However the site that took these photos suggests that the device is still being tested, is yet to be officially named and will get a China release at the very least.
UIQ 3.3 was released late in March, with the developers’ SDK available to download. Built upon Symbian v9.3, it will be the first version of the OS to include the Opera Mobile 9.5 browser out of the box. It’s also been fettled so as to be more straightforward at-a-glance, with what they’re calling a “UIQ Dashboard” of customisable widgets and status icons.
Tellingly, the three bubble logo on the back of the phone suggests the BeiBei will be fit into the Walkman series of handsets. The scroll control in the centre of the D-pad is also prompting some speculation, with some commentors believing it is – or represents – a fingerprint scanner. However none of these details are confirmed.
