Sony Ericsson’s Cyber-shot range are arguably the best of the cameraphones, and the company has announced two new models today at the Mobile World Congress. The Cyber-shot C902 and Cyber-shot C702 maintain the distinctive camera-like design of earlier models, while bringing functionality right up to date with 5-megapixels and 3.2-megapixels respectively; the C702 confirms the waterproof rumors we heard about earlier today, being splash & dust resistant, while the C902 packs traditionally mainstream-camera features such as face-detection, auto-focus and rapid-shutter.

The C702 also has onboard GPS for geotagging images as well as providing navigation guidance via Google Maps for Mobile and 20-million Points-of-Interest. The design is intended to make one-handed shots possible, with an active lens cover that automatically kicks the handset into Cyber-shot mode.

Meanwhile, the C902 has an almost instantaneous camera mode, again launched via the active lens cover, and there are eight “camera touch keys” which allow for fast selection of camera modes, Photo Flash, Face Detection and Auto Focus. A Night shoot mode caters for low-light images, and is now integrated into the BestPic multi-shot mode. It comes with 160MB of onboard memory, augmented via Memory Stick Micro M2 cards.

Both handsets will be available in versions that include UMTS/HSDPA 2100 and EDGE/GPRS 850/900/1800/1900 support, and versions that drop the UMTS/HSDPA compatibility (and identified as the C902c and C702a). They’ll all be available in Q2 2008.
We’ll have hands-on video of the C902 and C702 handsets later on this evening.
