Sony Ericsson’s WM6.1 announcement was one of the big “oh, yeah, we know” moments of CTIA, but it did have a few interesting tidbits regarding their XPERIA Panels GUI, the company’s attempt to out-intuitive the iPhone.  So it’s always nice to see video of new interfaces in action (usually so we can berate them); MobileBurn’s Michael Oryl shot some footage of the UI in action, which you can see after the cut.

The “fish” status panel at the end of the video seems a bit odd; Sony Ericcson aren’t generally associated with humorous icons, so I can’t think why they picked a fish?  If you can figure it out, let me know in the comments.

    Well, I think the reason they picked the fish is;
    Think if the fishes were human. Do you like to change the skin color by selecting the volume setting?:D

    And let’s say that was birds.
    The screen is too small to fly around.

    if it’s dog, it would cost you much more to have 3 dogs as your own pet.

    So fishes.

    I really like the fish panel, very fun looking and sure to be something to show people down the pub when I recieve my new phone next month (hopefully..).

    It’s been sed that it was HTC that actually made the Xperia X1 for Sony Ericsson, but also that Sony Ericsson owns a part of HTC. So my guess would be that some developer at HTC came up with the idea about the fishes.
