Sony’s mylo 2 WiFi communicator, which went on sale back in January, has received its first software update. Version 1.100 is available now from the Sony eSupport website, and adds support for WMV files, the SHOUTcast widget and slots a ‘Games’ option into the home menu. There are also a number of “system stability” improvements, though they are not specified.

Among the improvements is the much-needed tweak to YouTube on the mylo 2, which was reportedly jerky and prone to missed frames. As well as increasing smoothness of playback, YouTube media can now also be viewed full-screen, further stressing the mylo 2’s media device credentials. However some, such as Jenn from Pocketables, are having difficulty getting the latter point to work.
The update also fettles the Sony device’s memory management, together with changes to the camera which apparently make it load faster. The SHOUTcast widget is a separate download, again available from Sony eSupport, which lets you stream internet radio via WiFi. There’s also a playlist for presets.
