Speculation on Opera partnership w/ carriers proves false

There was some speculation by Forbes earlier that the browser maker Opera might partner up with carriers to offer Opera Mini on new wireless devices.  According to Forbes, there would have been an official announcement at the CTIA Wireless conference coming up in April.

The initial report from Forbes claimed that Opera would seek these partnerships and announce their plans to expand their mobile browser marketshare through the dealings with the 4 major US carriers.

Opera however publicly responded with this:

“Opera is aware of statements in the media that Opera will announce one or more agreements with US operators in early April.

Opera would like to clarify that it has no plans to announce any US operator agreements to the OSE in early April as mentioned in the media.”
