5GB data caps have been the norm for carriers for a while now. Some carriers will even charge you overages for going over the limit. Even more extreme actions for violating the rule include booting you off the network. Until now, there was an oasis in the land of data caps, and its name was Sprint. An internal Sprint memo though, has now revealed a change in heart on the policy.

“Sprint reserves the right to limit throughput speeds or amount of data transferred and to deny, terminate, modify, or suspend service if usage exceeds 5GB per month in total or 300MB/month while off-network roaming. Check your subscriber agreement rights on Sprint.com” -Internal Sprint Memo
It would seem people that go over this limit will suffer some serious consequences, right? Well maybe not, making a policy is one thing, but if there is one thing we know about Sprint, it is they do not enforce them very well. So until Sprint actually comes out and makes an example of someone, we are not going to know for sure what this will all mean.
Basically though, it is the same as any other carrier’s soft cap on data. If you go over the limit, you will be throttled down to a lower speed. You may also be denied data services all together if you are a frequent abuser. Also, if you are one to not learn your lesson, then Sprint may just start regulating, also known as showing you the door.

Sprint is doing this because they want people to buy their TV service and not use slingplayer mobile on their cell phone or laptop. Slingplayer is far better service. If they do this they will have to stop advertising their unlimited data plan. Verizon tried this scam and got sued and had to refund millions of dollars including my $250 for booting me off because they said I was over the limit. Liars.
