The keypress issue affecting Sprint’s LG-made Rumor handset – whereby certain combinations of buttons pressed during startup could actually wipe the phone’s firmware – and which initially Sprint denied (claiming the Rumor was “too popular” rather than being put on hold while LG came up with a fix) has been addressed with a software update. Pre-installed on all newly bought models, existing owners can update by choosing Menu > Settings/Tools > Tools> Update Firmware, or visiting your local Sprint store.
“While we have confidence in the quality of this device, we do encourage Rumor users to take advantage of this simple over-the-air upgrade” Sprint statement
If you update your Rumor and have any issues, let us know in the comments.

Thanks for the information about the Rumor. We find out about the “flaw” in the firmware the hard way. My daughter’s phone went down due to the issue. Spent alot of time with Sprint trying to get it fixed. I went to your website and found out what the fix was. So far so good.
