The keypress issue affecting Sprint’s LG-made Rumor handset - whereby certain combinations of buttons pressed during startup could actually wipe the phone’s firmware - and which initially Sprint denied (claiming the Rumor was “too popular” rather than being put on hold while LG came up with a fix) has been addressed with a software update. Pre-installed on all newly bought models, existing owners can update by choosing Menu > Settings/Tools > Tools> Update Firmware, or visiting your local Sprint store.

“While we have confidence in the quality of this device, we do encourage Rumor users to take advantage of this simple over-the-air upgrade” Sprint statement
