Sprint’s newly announced Instinct smartphone might be accused of being an iPhone copy, but it lacks at least one thing the Apple cellphone has: a voicemail lawsuit. The Instinct’s Visual Voicemail is licenced from Klausner, who are currently suing both Apple and AT&T regarding patents they believe the two have violated with the iPhone’s straightforward way of navigating voice messages.

Klausner has successfully won two cases against different companies over the patent - “telephone answering device linking displayed data with recorded audio message” - that it filed in 1994. While the identity of those companies is unclear, it is an undeniably convincing threat and obviously enough to persuade Sprint and Samsung to work with Klausner in developing the Instinct.
