Sprint will be providing the communications support for the Pope’s visit to New York. Each of the 600 phones Sprint is providing, will be equipped with Direct Connect, a la Nextel. Sprint is providing these phones at the request of the Archdiocese of New York. The phones will provide instant communication between the staff during the activities of the Papal visit.

Robust communications are integral to the success of the Pope’s visit, and we decided to work with Sprint because of their industry-leading Nextel Direct Connect product and the instant connectivity that it will provide to our staff during all activities over the next few days

Sprint is also providing a GPS tracking solution using the Actsoft Comet software, which will be loaded on the phones. On the data side, Sprint is providing access to their speedy Rev. A network, so the media will be able to stay connected. The deployment of these Sprint provided solutions will be done by Sprint’s “Emergency Response Team”.
