One of the biggest drains on the battery of our smartphones is the display. Therefore, one of the best places to save on power consumption and extend battery life is by making more efficient displays for smartphones.

Samsung is doing just that and Reuters reports that Sprint will benefit from new high-end Samsung devices using AMOLED screens. AMOLED screens are more energy efficient, equating to better battery life in the devices they are used in.

The catch in the early models using the new screen is that the devices will cost more because the screens are more expensive to produce. The screens will first be used in phones aimed at heavy video users. AMOLED screens also have better colors and need no backlight. A Sprint representative said that it would be selling an AMOLED screen device by Q4.
